I was a regular columnist in Europe's leading martial arts magazine Fighting Arts International, as well as contributing articles on a wide range of subjects and interviews with leading teachers and practitioners of the martial arts and related subjects. Currently I write a regular column in Dragon Times magazine, based in California. I have had more than one hundred articles published.

BACKGROUND: After university I worked as a teacher in a comprehensive school in South Shields. I lived in Japan from 1977 to 1990 where I worked as an English teacher in Tokyo and Kyoto. I was the Head of the school in Kyoto and was responsible for the general running of the school in all areas.

I am the Chief Instructor of the Seijinkai Karate-do Association, a British based martial arts group dedicated to the practice of traditional Okinawan and Japanese martial arts and related systems. I have some experience working in television and have been technical adviser and commentator for a number of programs dealing with the martial arts and applied self defence. One series I was involved with, a three part program entitled Budo Sai, was shown nationally and received very favourable reviews from both the general public and the martial arts community.
